My toddler actually sits still for this one

Look, I’ve tried a dozen “educational” apps for my three-year-old. Most last about ninety seconds before she’s tapping the back button. Savanna - Puzzles and Coloring is different. It’s not flashy or loud. It’s just solid, quiet fun that happens to teach her shapes and colors without feeling like homework.

The app splits into two main modes: puzzles and coloring. The puzzles are simple jigsaws of animals you’d find on the savanna — lions, elephants, giraffes. Each piece is a distinct shape, so my kid has to match the triangle to the triangle slot, the circle to the circle. She doesn’t know she’s learning geometry. She just knows she’s helping the elephant get its trunk back. The coloring pages are similarly straightforward. Tap a crayon, tap a section, and the animal fills in. No complex menus, no in-app purchases trying to sell you a “premium brush set.” It’s refreshingly honest.

What I appreciate most is the pace. There’s no timer, no star rating, no “try again faster” pressure. If my daughter wants to color the zebra purple, the app lets her. If she wants to sit on the lion puzzle for ten minutes, that’s fine too. The sound effects are gentle — soft animal noises and a cheerful little jingle when you finish a puzzle. It never feels like it’s trying to grab her attention or keep her hooked. It just exists, calmly, for as long as she wants it.

The art style helps. The animals are cute but not cartoony, with thick outlines that make the shapes easy to see and tap. The savanna background is warm and simple, with a few trees and a sun that doesn’t move or distract. For a kid under five, that’s ideal. Too many apps overload them with animations and pop-ups. Savanna keeps it clean.

If your child is two to four and you want something that’ll buy you ten minutes of quiet without making you feel guilty about screen time, this is a solid pick. One tip: start with the coloring mode first. It’s the easiest entry point. The puzzles can wait until they’ve got the hang of tapping and dragging. My daughter still prefers the crayons. I’m not complaining.
