My Toddler Actually Asks for This One

Look, I’ve tried a dozen “educational” apps for my three-year-old. Most get ignored after two minutes. But Nursery Rhymes & Kids Games? She actually asks for it. Not because it’s flashy, but because it’s simple in the right ways. The app is basically a collection of classic nursery rhymes—think “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and “Old MacDonald”—with animated videos and simple mini-games built around each song.

The videos are clean and bright, not overwhelming. My kid can tap the screen to make the cow jump or the star twinkle, which feels more interactive than just watching a screen. There’s also a handful of matching games, coloring pages, and puzzles tied to the rhymes. The audio is clear, the voices are pleasant, and the whole thing works offline—huge win for car rides or waiting rooms. No weird ads popping up mid-song either, which is rare for a free app.

It’s not perfect. The mini-games are pretty basic—drag a shape, tap a color—and older kids (say, four or five) might get bored fast. The 3.69 star rating on Google Play makes sense: some parents complain about occasional lag on older phones, and the free version only gives you a handful of songs before pushing a subscription. But for what it is—a low-pressure, no-fuss way to keep a toddler entertained while they learn a few words and melodies—it does the job.

If your kid is between one and three, this is a solid pick. My tip: let them tap through the songs themselves. The app rewards curiosity, not perfection. That’s more than I can say for most of the stuff in my “parenting survival” folder.
